Welton and Zelphia Sanders were both born and raised in Panola County, where they also attended high school. After graduating, Welton joined the Army and bravely served in the Korean War. Zelphia pursued beauty school, and later – after marrying and raising their children – earned her nursing degree from Panola Junior College.

Together, they raised three sons and built a life rooted in generosity, hard work, and service. Their belief in the power of education was unwavering – they truly felt that without it, a young person might never reach their God-given potential.

"Having a scholarship in both of their names is deeply meaningful," said  "It reflects the values they lived by and the legacy they left behind through their dedication to family, church, and community. My brothers and I are honored to be called their sons. May their legacy continue to inspire future generations."
