The Dorothy Witcher, R.N./Lucent Technologies Endowed Scholarship was established by Dorothy Witcher in 2001. She established the scholarship due to her love of nursing and to assist individuals who share her passion for helping others.

Mrs. Witcher graduated from nursing school in Youngstown, Ohio and went on to serve as a Registered Nurse (R.N.) in the U.S. Army Nurse Corp from 1942 to 1945. In 1949, she left the service and moved to Carthage.

She continued to work for many years as an R.N., sixteen of those with a company known as Lucent Technologies. Utilizing Lucent Technologies’ matching grant program, she was able to make this scholarship a reality.

Mrs. Witcher has two children, a daughter, Rebecca Konvicka of Aledo, Texas and a son, Greg Witcher of El Campo, Texas. She also has two grandchildren, Megan Ryan of Houston and Jason Konvicka of Richmond, Virginia.

To be eligible to receive the scholarship, an applicant must have been accepted into the Associate Degree Nursing Program at Panola College.
