Panola College is proud to announce the establishment of three new endowed scholarships that will provide lasting support for future students. The Becky Yarberry Taylor Endowed Scholarship, Freddy Mason Endowed Scholarship, and Phillip H. and Cynthia Hunt Grimes Memorial Scholarship reflect the generosity of donors who believe in the transformative power of education and are committed to investing in the success of future Panola College students.

Becky Yarberry Taylor

Established in 2026 by the Taylor family, the Becky Yarberry Taylor Endowed Scholarship honors Becky Yarberry Taylor, a 1976 Panola Junior College graduate whose Associate in Applied Science degree in data processing launched a successful career of more than 30 years as a computer programmer and systems analyst. A dedicated student leader, Taylor was active in Phi Theta Kappa, student senate, the press club, and other campus organizations.

Freddy Mason

The Freddy Mason Endowed Scholarship honors the life and legacy of Bro. Freddy Mason, whose decades of service impacted both Panola College and the surrounding community. A Panola College alumnus, longtime pastor of Cedar Grove Baptist Church, faculty member, former dean of the Liberal Arts Department, and director of the Baptist Student Ministry, Mason devoted his life to serving others.

Phil, Cynthia, and Catherine Grimes

Established in 2025, the Phillip H. and Cynthia Hunt Grimes Memorial Scholarship was created by Phil and Cynthia Grimes as a way to give back to the college that helped shape their lives. Both Panola College alumni and lifelong Panola County residents, the Grimes’ established the scholarship to help future generations of students pursue their educational goals while honoring the lasting impact Panola College has had on their family.

“Endowed scholarships are one of the most meaningful ways to create a lasting legacy,” said Joanna Huckabee, Director of Institutional Advancement. “Each of these scholarships reflects a commitment to education and student success that will continue making a difference for generations. We are grateful to those who choose to invest in Panola College students and create opportunities that will have a lasting impact for years to come.”

The Panola College Foundation administers more than 170 endowed scholarships established through the generosity of alumni, families, businesses, and community members.
