Musical events planned for October at Panola College
Panola College will present two free musical performances in October, featuring the Panola College Concert and Jazz Bands and the Pipers Show Choir. Both performances will take place in the Q.M. Martin Auditorium and are free and open to the public.
The Panola College Concert and Jazz Bands will present their fall concert on Thursday, October 15, at 7 p.m. The evening will open with the Concert Band presenting Sounds of Texas!, a program featuring music by composers with connections to the Lone Star State.
Selections will highlight works by Tim Rhea, Director of Bands at Texas A&M University; Fred Allen, former Director of Bands at Stephen F. Austin State University; Dallas native Frank Ticheli; Clifton Williams, formerly of the University of Texas; and San Antonio-based composer JaRod Hall.
Following a brief intermission, the Panola College Jazz Band will take the stage with a lively mix of music ranging from swing to rock and roll. The program will include ballads and up-tempo selections showcasing talented Panola College student soloists from throughout the ensemble.
The Pipers will continue the College’s October musical offerings with We Are Here – A Show Choir Journey from Darkness to Light on Tuesday, October 20, at 7:30 p.m.
Designed as more than a traditional concert, We Are Here will combine singing and dancing with theatrical lighting and props to create an immersive show choir experience. The program will feature a new rendition of a choral classic along with familiar selections made popular by the Rolling Stones, Journey, Queen, Fleetwood Mac, Bon Jovi, Usher, Pat Benatar, Blondie, Cyndi Lauper, and others.
With music spanning classic rock and popular favorites, the performance will offer an energetic evening of music and entertainment for audiences of all ages.
“We are excited to kick off these October performances and give our community an opportunity to experience the talent of our students,” said Donna Kusher, Director of Show Choir at Panola College. “These concerts are a wonderful opportunity to enjoy live music on campus and support our student performers.”
