Panola College Theatre earns Exemplary distinction from Texas Educational Theatre Association
Panola College Theatre has earned the prestigious Exemplary designation through the Texas Educational Theatre Association’s (TxETA) Award of Distinction program. This recognition honors theatre programs that demonstrate an outstanding commitment to theatre education, student engagement, and community involvement.
The Exemplary designation is the highest tier of TxETA’s Award of Distinction program, which recognizes schools for excellence in theatre education. Kim Funderburk, Director of Theatre at Panola College, accepted the award during TxETA’s annual TheatreFest conference on October 2 at Moody Gardens in Galveston, Texas.
“I am so proud of our theatre students, past and present, for being part of this wonderful recognition,” said Funderburk. “This award demonstrates the hard work, dedication, and love for theatre that our students have shared through the years. What a blessing to see the legacy of this department continue to grow.”
To earn the distinction, theatre programs must submit a detailed annual application demonstrating their commitment to excellence in several areas, including the quality and quantity of theatrical productions, access to performance spaces and resources, community and administrative support, student participation in theatre competitions, and theatre technology.
Panola College Theatre’s recognition at the Exemplary level highlights the department’s continued dedication to providing students with meaningful opportunities to develop their talents, gain hands-on experience, and participate in theatrical productions and educational activities.
“We applaud Panola College for their remarkable efforts in promoting theatre arts. Their program serves as a model of creativity, community, and educational excellence,” said Travis Springfield, Past President of the Texas Educational Theatre Association.
The Texas Educational Theatre Association supports and promotes theatre education at all levels by providing professional development opportunities, resources, and a network of support for theatre educators and students.
