Panola College hosts annual high school welding competition

Panola College welding technology hosted a high school welding competition on April 24 in the new Matthews Foundation Energy Building. This year’s event drew participation from 11 schools and showcased the skills of 45 talented students.
“Our goal is for these high school students to become better involved in welding technology,” said Clint Cassell, instructor of welding technology at Panola College. “This competition is a great way for them to go head-to-head with others their age and sharpen the skills they’ll need in the welding industry.”
Drake Dectsch (Logansport I.S.D.) received first place and a $1,500 scholarship. Garrett Tremmell (Burkeville I.S.D.) received second place, Ryan Moton (Logansport I.S.D.) received third place, and Jared Cordova (Center I.S.D) received fourth place.
