Panola College participates in the State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements administered by NC-SARA.  This allows us to provide distance learning programs to residents of states other than Texas and establishes comparable national standards between member states, districts and territories. NC-SARA participation, however, does not grant reciprocity for state professional licensing requirements.

State Licensure Requirements By Program

For programs that lead to professional licensure approved by a state board, such as Occupational Therapy Assistant or Emergency Medical Services, Panola College's programs are designed to meet the requirements for approval in Texas. To determine whether a Panola College program will meet the educational requirements for professional licensure in your state, please click on the appropriate section below.

Emergency Medical Sciences

The Panola College Emergency Medical Sciences program is designed to meet the educational requirements for licensure or certification as a paramedic or Emergency Medical Technician in the state of Texas. Completion of the program does not guarantee certification or licensure.

Upon completion of the EMT or Paramedic programs, graduates will be able to test for the certification examination.  Upon passing the exam, the individual will earn the EMT or Paramedic Certification. Most states, including Texas, require licensure in order to practice; however, state licenses are usually based on the results of the NREMT exam.  States also require additional qualifications which may include, background check, finger printing, confirmation of identity, successful completion of a juriprudence exam, or other state specific directed requirements.  A felony conviction could jeopardize a student’s ability to graduate and obtain licensure and/or certification.  If a student is concerned about their ability to sit to take the board exam or be licensed, please see the EMS Program Chair, who can help you coordinate a pre-determination assessment by the involved parties.

As a participant in the National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (NC-SARA), Panola College is committed to complying with disclosure requirements under Section 5.2 of the SARA Policy Manual and 34 CFR §668.43(a)(5)(v). Students who reside or plan to seek licensure in a state other than Texas are responsible for verifying whether this program meets the educational requirements for licensure or certification in their state.

Students planning to practice outside of Texas are encouraged to contact the appropriate licensing board in the state where they intend to practice. Contact information for state licensing boards can be found here: https://www.nremt.org/resources/state-ems-offices

If you have questions or need assistance, contact the EMS Program Chair at (903) 694-4024 or visit Room 1102 in the Dr Gregory S Powell Science Center.
