Panola College Theatre to present ‘The Importance of Being Earnest’

Panola College Theatre will present its dinner theatre production of Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest on Friday, October 9, and Saturday, October 10, at 6 p.m. in the Elizabeth R. Hedges Studio Theatre. A dessert matinee will be presented on Sunday, October 11, at 2 p.m.

First performed in 1895, The Importance of Being Earnest is a satirical comedy that follows two gentlemen who use false identities to escape their social obligations and pursue romance. Their deceptions quickly become complicated, leading to a series of misunderstandings, unexpected revelations, and humorous encounters as Wilde pokes fun at Victorian society and its expectations surrounding love, marriage, and social status.

“The Importance of Being Earnest is a classic comedy that gives our students the opportunity to bring Oscar Wilde’s wit and memorable characters to life on stage,” said Kim Funderburk, Director of Theatre at Panola College. “We are excited to welcome audiences to the Hedges Studio Theatre for an entertaining evening of theatre, great food, and plenty of laughs.”

The Friday and Saturday performances will feature dinner followed by the production, while Sunday’s matinee will include dessert.
