Panola College accounting student accepted to national symposium
Panola College accounting student Billie Jean Welch has been selected to participate in the 2026 American Accounting Association Foundation Two-Year Bridge Symposium, a national initiative connecting community college students with educational and career opportunities in the accounting profession.
The symposium will take place November 6th from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at participating accounting firm offices across the country. The event will give selected students the opportunity to connect with accounting professionals, build industry relationships, and gain valuable insight into careers in accounting.
Through the program, participants will explore accounting career pathways, transfer opportunities to four-year institutions, professional licensure requirements, scholarship opportunities, and resources to support their continued educational and professional development.
“This honor is both humbling and encouraging,” Welch said. “It represents the hard work I have put into my education and motivates me to continue learning, growing, and pursuing my future in accounting.”
Welch’s selection for the symposium and opportunity to work with RSM mark an exciting milestone in her academic journey at Panola College as she continues working toward her career goals in accounting.
“We are so proud of Billie Jean and her accomplishments,” said Jennifer King, Professor of Accounting and Business at Panola College. “Her initiative and commitment to her education are qualities that will serve her well throughout her career. It is always rewarding to see our students pursue opportunities beyond the classroom, and I have no doubt Billie Jean has a bright future ahead of her.”
