H-E-B donates $5,000 to Panola College Emergency Aid program

H-E-B Grocery Company donated $5,000 to the Emergency Aid program at Panola College, helping provide critical support to students facing unexpected financial challenges. Dr. Jessica Pace, Panola College president, and members of the Emergency Aid team visited the H-E-B in Carthage to thank the company for its generous contribution.

The Emergency Aid program was established at Panola College in 2021 through a grant from the Greater Texas Foundation. The program assists students who experience unexpected emergencies that could create barriers to continuing their education.

“This generous contribution from H-E-B allows us to provide meaningful assistance to students when they need it most,” said Amber Wilcots, advancement and special events coordinator. “Having access to emergency support can make the difference in whether a student is able to remain enrolled and continue working toward their educational goals.”

The Emergency Aid program receives hundreds of requests each year from students seeking assistance with needs such as gas, medical expenses, food, clothing, and transportation. Students may submit one request each semester, with every application reviewed on a case-by-case basis to determine how the program can best address the student’s needs.

Through the support provided by the program, approximately 80 to 90 percent of students who receive assistance are able to overcome the immediate barrier they are facing and continue pursuing their education.
