Panola College and Carthage Primary team up to bring health sciences to life

What started as a curious question from a Carthage Primary first grader turned into an unforgettable, hands-on educational experience for the entire class – thanks to a collaboration between Carthage I.S.D. and Panola College Health Sciences.
After the student asked their teacher if the class could borrow a model to learn about the human body, the idea quickly gained momentum. Just one week later, students from the College were in the classroom at Carthage Primary delivering a fun, interactive lesson that brought science to life and captured the imaginations of every first grader.
Thanks to the incredible teamwork of Julie Green, Chair of the Occupational Therapy Assistant Program, and Rachel Weekly, Chair of Medical Assisting and Health Information Technology, along with dedicated student volunteers from the Health Information Technology, Occupational Therapy Assisting, and Emergency Medical Services programs, the collaboration came to life.
“This is what learning should look like – interactive, inspiring, and built on curiosity,” said Green. “Our students loved sharing their knowledge, and the kids were so excited to explore. This collaboration is a shining example of how a simple question can lead to meaningful, community-centered learning.”
