Instructional Goals and Purposes
Panola College's instructional goals include 1) creating an academic atmosphere in which students may develop their intellects and skills and 2) providing courses so students may receive a certificate/an associate degree or transfer to a senior institution that offers baccalaureate degrees.
General Course Objectives
- Students will experience the basic drawing materials.
- Students will practice advanced drawing techniques.
- Students will use the principles in creating a strong composition.
- Students will practice their drawing by maintaining a drawing journal during the semester.
- Students will critique their work in a group setting.
- Students will exhibit their work.
Specific Course Objectives
General Description of Each Lecture or Discussion
Students in all sections of Drawing II will be required to do the following:
- Students will complete gesture and line drawings.
- Students will create drawings using varied shading techniques.
- Students will demonstrate ways of creating texture in drawings.
- Students will experience varied drawing tools-pencils, chalk, charcoal, pastels, paper stumps, etc..
- Students will apply the Visual Elements and Principles of Design in creating a composition.
- Students will practice creating visually aesthetic drawings.
- Students will demonstrate the use of proportion in the drawing of the human face.
- Students will demonstrate the use of proportion in the drawing the human figure.
- Students will exhibit their work.
- Students will complete and submit a Drawing Journal.
- Students will complete a Group Critique.
Methods of Instruction/Course Format/Delivery
Lecture, Demonstration, Hands-on, Critique, videos
Assessment
Students will assessed on the following assignments: 3-D shapes, Contour and Cross-contour line drawings, Gesture drawings, Portrait Drawing, Figure Drawing.
Students will be evaluated on their individual progress in the areas of creativity, technique, and completed assignments. Students will not be compared to others with previous experience.
Students will keep a drawing journal during the semester, participate in a Group Critique, and show their work in an exhibit.
Drawings: 50%
Drawings: Group Critique 10%
Drawing Journal: 30%
