Skills Development- The Panola College Office of Workforce and Economic Development provides training opportunities for business and industry to assist employees in developing the skills needed to obtain, retain, and succeed in the workforce. The program's objectives include building awareness about career and employment options for individuals facing significant barriers to employment. Through Skills Development, the college offers education, training, and workplace experiences to teach the importance of savings, the basics of financial management and related consumer issues. Resources- The Office of Workforce and Economic Development works closely with Panola College departments, the M.P. Baker Library, Texas state agencies in Austin, local and state personnel in Harrison, Marion, Panola, and Shelby counties, and other community representatives. Work Keys- Work Keys is a workplace skills system that enables employers to assess workers and customize training for a wide range of skilled jobs, provides a way for students and workers to document and advance their employability skills, and informs educators how to tailor instructional programs to help students acquire specific skills employers need. The Work Keys system is unique because the information comes directly out of the workplace and from the people who do the job being assessed. The proper use of Work Keys assessments, in conjunction with appropriate employer job profiling, meets the requirements set forth in the Uniform Guidelines on Employee Selection Procedures, which have been adopted by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). Work Keys is designed to facilitate communication between business and education. Its goals: to help individuals find rewarding careers, to help employers hire qualified employees, and to help America build a stronger workforce.
