The Panola College Office of Workforce and Economic Development announces course offerings for 2006. The above PDF schedule outlines continuing education and community service courses to be offered at the Carthage, Center, and Marshall facilities. All course offerings are subject to a minimum enrollment, and class may be added upon request. Call us or check this site for continual changes.
Panola College is an Equal Opportunity Institution that provides education and employment opportunities on the basis of merit and without discrimination because of race, color, religion, sex, age, national origin, veteran status, or disability.
Workforce & Economic Development
We offer several types of courses in the continuing education department. Students do not have to go through the admission process to register for our classes and can gain Continuing Education Unit Credits or take classes for Personal Enrichment. Our courses are available to enhance lifelong learning and make new learning opportunities available.
Continuing Education Units
While academic credit is not awarded for continuing education courses, many classes do carry Continuing Education Units (C.E.U.’s). The C.E.U. is a nationally recognized means of recording and accounting for continuing education activities. One unit is awarded for completion of 10 hours of organized continuing education training. We now offer certified CEs for numerous professional fields including nursing, social workers, law enforcement, and mental health.
Personal Enrichment Courses
These courses are available to enhance life-long learning and make new learning opportunities available. No C.E.U.’s are awarded for these classes. Some are offered as short courses while others are co-enrollment courses.
Co-Enrollment Courses
A co-enrollment course is a continuing education course which meets at the same time and place as an existing college credit course. Enrollment is based upon space availability and where applicable, completion of appropriate assessment and counseling. Co-Enrollment students earn Continuing Education Units (CEU’s) when applicable, not college credit. The advantage of a CEU course is that you don’t have to go through admission process to take a co-enrollment class. If you want college credit, you must seek admission to the College as a credit student. Students taking Co-Enrollment courses do not apply for formal admission to Panola College, nor are they subject to THEA (Texas Higher Education Assessment formally the TASP Test). Attendance at all class sessions and participation in classroom lecture/discussion and evaluation is expected. To register for a Co-Enrollment continuing education course, follow the same procedures as outlined in the front of the continuing education schedule for all other continuing education courses before the class begins.
1. Determine the course and section that you would like to attend.
2. Register for the Co-Enrollment continuing education course at the Workforce Office in Carthage or at one of the sites where course is offered.
3. All tuition is charged at the in-district rate and lab fees are added.
4. Proceed to the scheduled class meeting. Be prepared to show your fee receipt marked "paid" to the instructor.
5. Co-Enrollment students are expected to perform every assignment and receive a grade, just as credit students.
(Continuing Education and Community Service Courses Only)
Students who wish to enroll for a Continuing Education or Community Service course may do so by one of the following methods:
In person at Panola College Workforce and Continuing Education Office or any off- campus Panola College site
By mail when paying by either check or credit card
By fax or phone when paying by credit card
PAYMENTS
Tuition may be paid by cash, check, money order, Visa, MC, or Discover. Checks should be made payable to Panola College for the amount listed.
REGISTRATION BY MAIL
Complete the form at the back of this schedule. Attach your check or money order for the appropriate amount. DO NOT SEND CASH. Mail registration to the campus where course is offered. Registration and payment should be received at least five days prior to the beginning of the course.
CLASS CANCELLATION
Panola College reserves the right to cancel any course if enrollment is insufficient. However, the college will make every attempt to prevent undue hardship on students. The decision to conduct or cancel the class is made immediately prior to the first day of class. This provides every opportunity for sufficient enrollment. Please call before driving to make certain class has made.
Class Withdrawal
To withdraw formally from a Continuing Education class, a student must contact the campus where the course is offered either by phone or in person during working hours. Mailed notification will be accepted and the postmark date will be the effective date for refunding.
For classes with fewer than 30 contact hours, refunds, less a $15 processing fee, are given for withdrawal from noncredit courses, workshops, and special programs if written withdrawals are made at least five business days prior to the program. However, you may be liable for charges for special arrangements such as meals, housing, materials, etc. made in your name. If a refund is due, a check will be mailed within four to six weeks of request.
For classes with more than 30 contact hours, refunds follow current college guidelines. See the Drop and Withdrawal Refund Schedule below for more details.
