Welcome to the HOME PAGE for the AAT degree at Panola College!

The Associate of Arts in Teaching (AAT) degree is a Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board-approved (THECB) collegiate degree program consisting of lower-division (Community College) courses intended for transfer to baccalaureate programs that lead to initial Texas teacher certification.

Should you decide to complete the AAT degree and not transfer to a baccalaureate program, this degree meets the “No Child Left Behind” requirements for paraprofessionals. In addition, completion of the AAT degree is much like that of an Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degree in that it may qualify you for work that requires at least an associate’s degree.

There are three AAT curricula which include a maximum of 60 semester credit  hours (SCH) of coursework.  Click H E R E for help deciding which plan is best for you.

Early Childhood-Grade 6 (EC-6)

Grades 4-8, EC- Grade 12

Grades 8-12, Other EC-12

All courses required to complete the AAT degree are offered ONLINE or in a traditional classroom setting. You choose the format most convenient for you.

Completion of an AAT degree does not necessarily guarantee admission to a university teacher education program.  Any additional requirements must be satisfied as required by the receiving university. It is the responsibility of each student to know the specific requirements of the college or university to which he or she plans to transfer. This responsibility includes knowing course requirements, assessments, number of credit hours accepted, and grade-point average for admission.
