Computer Information Technology

Program Goals and Objectives

  • Panola College's Computer Information Technology (CIT) curriculum provides students with the following opportunities.
    • University transfer courses in the computer science field of study.
      • These courses transfer to university computer science in partial fulfillment of the bachelor’s degree.
  • A two-year Associate of Applied Science Degree in Computer Information Technology
    • The Associate of Applied Science Degree in CIT program is designed to meet the needs of individuals who need a generalized degree that will enable them to enter a highly technical workforce.
  • CIT certificate programs providing state-of-the-art training in one year or less of training.
    • This provides flexibility and opportunity for students with time constraints for training.
  • Linkages with high schools and universities through articulation and tech prep provide maximum access to local educational resources.
    • Cooperative agreements with high schools create efficient paths from high school to two year degrees or certificates.
    • CIT works with all school districts in Shelby, Panola, Harrison, and Marion counties.  Panola College maintains campus sites in Center, Carthage, and Marshall.
  • Cooperative agreements with universities maximize the number of courses students may transfer from the community college toward a four year university degree.
    • CIT works with all state colleges and universities in Texas.
    • CIT maintains close working relationships with University of Texas At Tyler and Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches.
    • Computer Science professors from both SFASU and UT Tyler are regularly consulted by the CIT advisory committee.
    • CIT faculty attends annual university workshops designed to give community colleges insight into the university plans for the future.
