ARTS 1301. Art Appreciation (3 semester hours)
A survey of the movements and ideas in historic and contemporary art forms, with special attention given to the functions of art in contemporary culture. Lectures, class discussions, demonstrations, and additional creative art experiences.
ARTS 1316. Drawing I (3 semester hours)
Introduction to the basic discipline of drawing through the use of still-life, landscape, architecture, and conceptual ideas. Six hours studio, three hours assigned independent study per week.
ARTS 1325. Oil Painting (3 semester hours)
Painting from still life, landscape, and the human figure. Technical instruction in principles of painting. (Lab fee)
ARTS 2346. Ceramics (3 semester hours)
Introduction to ceramic processes. Basic materials and techniques. Hand building, glazing and firing procedures. (Lab fee)
ARTS 2366. Water Color Painting (3 semester hours)
Problems and instruction in the use of water color, tempera, and gouache. (Lab fee)
ARTS 1413. Foundations of Art (Art for the Elementary Teacher) (4 semester hours) (Lab Fee)
Created for the nonart majors planning to teach children's art. This course is a study of the history, organization, evaluation, and function of the creative arts in the elementary curriculum. Includes opportunity for the student to work with various media with an emphasis on aesthetic judgment and growth.
