(11/17/07)

The Lady Bucs of Shelton State College entered Friday night's game against the Fillies of Panola College ranked 16th in the current NJCAA national poll, but were unable to overcome the Fillies and dropped a 78-83 decision to the hometown Fillies. "Tonight's game was just a great college basketball game," commented coach Tracey Stellato, "both teams played extremely hard and I am very proud of the toughness my kids showed in beating Shelton State tonight." Four ladies paced the Fillies' scoring, led once again by sophomore Kim Edmonson, who netted 17 on the night. Sophomores Melissa White, Casie Adams and Vedrana Milakovic joined Edmonson, adding 14, 13 and 12 respectively. Milakovic also added 9 rebounds. Freshman point guard Valentina Cora had a solid night, chipping 7 points, but also dishing out 8 assists. "Defensively, I saw us do some nice things and we were able to force some turnovers that allowed us to get some easy buckets." The Fillies trailed at the half 41-44, but tied the game at 44 all  30 seconds into the second half on a 3-point basket by Melissa White. Action went back and forth for most of the second half until the Fillies took control for good with 4:00 minutes to play. The win improves the Fillies overall season mark to 4-2. They will return to the hardwood Saturday afternoon to face the Lady Jaguars of Southern University-Shreveport in the final game of the Panola Fillies Classic. Tip-off time is 4:00pm.  In other action, Angelina College defeated Southern University in the first game of Friday night's double-header action and will suit up against Shelton State today for a 2:00pm start time. Come out and enjoy some great women's college basketball and support your Panola Fillies.
