PANOLA DOWNS DEFENDING NATIONAL
CHAMPS
(12/8/07) The Panola Fillies closed out the fall portion of their 2007-08 basketball season with a 97-70 win over the defending NJCAA national champion Odessa Lady Wranglers Saturday afternoon at Arthur Johnson Gymnasium. Jasmine Brown, a sophomore from Jersey Village, exploded for a career best 26 points, knocking down 8 treys en route to a career day. Kim Edmonson turned in another solid performance, netting 22 points and pulling down 8 rebounds. "I thought we played very poorly during the first half--we just were not playing hard enough," commented head coach Tracey Stellato. "We came out the second half with much better intensity, on both ends of the floor, and it really allowed us to knock down some open shots and get some stops on the defensive end of the floor. We had a team that stepped up and made plays in the second half. Jasmine and Kim really scored for us in the second half, but I thought we got a great team performance during the second half." The win improves the Fillies overall season mark to 9-4, entering the Christmas break. The Fillies will return to action on January 4th, 2008 when Murray State College comes to town for a non-conference game to open the new year. Come out and support Fillies basketball. | |
