Marshall Scholarship Established

Panola College announces the establishment of the Mr. and Mrs. J.D. Marshall / Mr. and Mrs. Ralph N. Marshall Endowed Scholarship. This scholarship was established by Ralph and Lily Marshall and Miriam D. Marshall.

Mr. J. D. Marshall was a longtime employee of ExxonMobil and was employed in Hawkins, Texas as a Senior Field Superintendent. He married Miriam Dennard of Carthage in 1940. Together they had three children, Ralph, Melinda and Martin. The Marshalls instilled in their children the importance of education and a strong belief in helping others. Mr. J. D. Marshall passed away in January 2006.

Even though he is gone, Mr. Marshall’s legacy is carried on through his wife, Miriam, and their son and daughter-in-law, Ralph and Lily Marshall. Like his father before him, Ralph was employed by ExxonMobil. Ralph volunteers regularly at Mission Carthage, and he and his wife, Lily, are active members of Central Baptist Church. Ralph is a member of Gideon’s International, an interdenominational association of Christian business and professional men dedicated to saving the lost through personal witnessing and the distribution of God's Word.  Lily serves as a member of the Gideon’s auxiliary. They have also dedicated their time and efforts to finding ways to provide financial support to deserving Panola College students.

“We are grateful to the Marshalls for their generosity,” said Van Patterson, Director of Institutional Advancement. “Each endowment makes a difference in the lives of our students…for some it’s the difference between being able to attend or not.

The Mr. and Mrs. J.D. Marshall / Mr. and Mrs. Ralph N. Marshall Scholarship will be awarded annually to a student who is starting their sophomore year at Panola College and is also a graduate of Carthage ISD.  The selection and announcement naming the recipients will be made in the spring each year.   Applicants should contact the Office of Institutional Advancement at Panola College, 903-693-2029.
