Panola College Offering Grants to Encourage College Readiness
Recently the Texas Commissioner of Education approved a series of college readiness standards developed by public school educators, postsecondary educators, and administrators from all levels. This event marks the first time that the Texas Education Agency and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board have collaborated and agreed on a series of standards designed to support student success in postsecondary education.
To support these standards, Panola College is sponsoring a P-16 College Readiness Grant for local public school educators in Marion, Harrison, Panola, and Shelby Counties. Grants totaling $3,000 will be paid to educators who demonstrate innovativeness in the alignment and implementation of the College Readiness Standards.
Applications are available on Panola College’s website, www.panola.edu. They can also be obtained by emailing Professor Andrew Fisher at afisher@panola.edu, or by calling 903-693-2070. Grant applications must be submitted no later than May 30, 2008. A copy of the College Readiness Standards is located on the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board’s website, http://www.thecb.texas.gov/collegereadiness/CRS.pdf.
