Fillies win, near XIV tourney spot
The Panola Watchman
2/20/08
Panola
has yet to clinch a Region XIV Tournament berth, but Saturday’s 71-58 romp over
Paris has the Fillies at the lip of the cup, so to speak.
They can clinch here Wednesday night when Kilgore comes calling. Or Jacksonville
could lose in Tyler. Pick your poison.
Trinity Valley should cop the conference title with Blinn second and Tyler
third.
The Lady Cardinals (23-4, 15-1 in XIV) are at Paris (9-19, 4-12), the Lady Bucs
(22-4, 12-3) journey to Lufkin to meet Angelina and Tyler (20-7, 10-5) will host
Jacksonville in Wednesday’s action.
The Fillies made a hard rush in the first half to knock the Lady Dragons off
their feet, 36-26, at intermission, but during a period of little more than five
minutes after the break, Paris climbed back to within 40-35 before Jasmine Brown
and Kayla Weaver suddenly took control.
When Casie Adams joined the hunt, the light at the end of the Paris tunnel
flicker, then died.
Brown would score well in either period to finish with 22. Kelsey Harris and
Vedrana Milakovic each had 11, Weaver marked for eight and Adams for seven.
Lynzi Williams finally got her shots to fall and had 14 of her 16 points in the
second period to help Paris make it interesting. Ashley Johnson tallied 13.
The current standings:
1. TVCC 23-4, 15-1
2. Blinn 22-4, 12-3
3. Tyler 20-7, 10-5
4. Angelina 18-10, 10-6
5. Panola 18-9, 8-7
7. J’ville 15-10, 6-9
8. Ln Morris 12-15, 6-10
9. Kilgore 10-14, 4-12
10. Paris 9-19, 4-12
10. San Jac 8-20, 3-113
Jacksonville is at Tyler, TVCC goes to Paris, Kilgore comes to Carthage to face
Panola and Blinn is at Lufkin versus Angelina in Wednesday’s games.
