DALLAS’ THE VOCAL MAJORITY® CHORUS IN CONCERT AT PANOLA COLLEGE ON MAY 6
DALLAS, TEXAS – Dallas’ internationally recognized The Vocal Majority® Chorus, America’s Premier Pops Chorus, will be featured in concert at Panola College’s Q. M. Martin Auditorium in Carthage, TX on May 6, 2007.
Under the direction of father/son directors Jim and Greg Clancy, the male chorus is known for its lush a cappella harmonies. The repertoire for the show will include classic love songs, a Texas medley, inspirational and sacred music, patriotic and pops favorites plus VM’s signature barbershop harmony repertoire.
With its international reputation, The Vocal Majority® Chorus has performed with The Mormon Tabernacle Choir, and, in 1998 joined the Atlanta Symphony in a concert
at Atlanta’s Olympic Centennial Park attended by over 135,000 people. In July of 2006 VM won its unprecedented eleventh gold medal in the international competition of the Barbershop Harmony Society at its Indianapolis convention. The Chorus holds the largest number of gold medals in the history of the Society.
The Chorus toured to Great Britain in 1995, returning in the summer of 2001. Concerts to standing-room-only house in Glasgow, Scotland, at the Glasgow SECC and Glasgow Cathedral were the highlights of this trip. The summer of 2001 took VM to Canada for a series of shows in Toronto.
The Vocal Majority’s twenty-fifth recording, You Raise Me Up, released in September of 2006, is already in its second pressing. Recently, Brendan Graham, Irish novelist, songwriter, and lyricist of the popular, “You Raise Me Up,” recently wrote to the chorus saying, “By now there are over one-hundred and thirty recordings of ‘You Raise Me Up.’ At this stage it is hard for me to get too excited about a new recording – but in the case of what you [Jim] and Greg and the Vocal Majority have done, I was totally awed by it. It is powerful, yet beautiful, the delivery has gravitas, yet warmth – and there is a freshness in the whole approach to it.”
Performance time is: May 6, 2007, at 4:00 p.m. in the Panola College Q. M. Martin Auditorium. There will be no admission charge for this event.
This performance has been made possible through the generosity of Mr. and Mrs. Foster Murphy who established the B.F. and Mary Payne Fund for the Preservation of Texas Culture. For additional information please call 903-693-2000.
