MEDVEDEV TO SPEAK AT PANOLA COLLEGE GRADUATION
Mrs. Margaret A. Medvedev, MSN, RN will be the commencement speaker at Panola College’s first fall graduation ceremony. The event is scheduled for Friday, December 14, at 7:00 p.m. in the Arthur M. Johnson Gymnasium.
Medvedev joined the United States Air Force in January of 1969. During her time in the military she excelled, and from 1991 to 1993 was the Director of Nurses at the Wright-Patterson Medical Center in Dayton, Ohio. Her responsibilities included directing all activities involving a nursing staff of 580 in an acute care facility as well as outpatient clinics and services with an annual outpatient visit total of up to 570,000.
From 1993 to 1996 Medvedev served as Chief Executive of an Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron. She managed all operations involving twelve DC-9 aircraft configured to transport up to 40 patients and a staff of over 200 including 64 RNs. She directed the successful transport of over 40,000 military and civilian patients annually and prepared and administered an annual budget of $650,000. Medvedev was the driving force in the development of a strategic 2-year and 5-year plan for squadron operations through the successful use of quality improvement processes. The plan became a standard used by other organizations.
In 1996 Medvedev was transferred to Barksdale AFB where she served as Chief Executive, Medical Operation and Director of Nurses. There she directed base medical services, oversaw a staff of 240, and managed an annual budget of $5 million.
Medvedev retired from the USAF in 1998. During her 29 year career she reached the rank of Colonel and was awarded the Air Force Meritorious Service Medal with four Oak Leaf Clusters and a Combat Service Medal.
Following her retirement from the USAF she went to work for the Northwest Louisiana Developmental Center in Bossier City as the Director of Health Services. Later in 2000 Panola College hired Medvedev to be a professor in its Associate Degree Nursing Program. She taught Nursing Skills, Introduction to Nursing, Clinical Nursing to accompany Introduction to Nursing, Common Concepts of Adult Health, Complex Concepts of Adult Health, and Clinical Nursing to accompany Common Concepts of Adult Health. She left Panola College in 2007 and is now an independent contractor for Elsevier, Inc.
