First State Bank & Trust Co. Scholarship
The First State Bank & Trust Co. has always been a strong and loyal friend of Panola College. The relationship between the two organizations has proven beneficial to the citizens of Panola County.
Last December Mr. Jimmy Payne, CEO of the First State Bank and Trust Company, presented Dr. Gregory Powell, president of Panola College, with a check for $7,500. This gift was used to establish the First State Bank & Trust Company Scholarship.
“I was impressed with First State Bank’s concern for their employees and the citizens of Panola County,” said Mr. Van Patterson, Director of Institutional Advancement. “They understand that financial concerns are the most common obstacle to students achieving their educational goals. They also know that many of their employees and their dependents currently, or in the past, have attended Panola College. They took all of this information into consideration and created a scholarship that will help their employees and benefit our community in perpetuity.”
“A plaque announcing the Scholarship will be added to the College’s Endowed Scholarship Wall,” said Patterson. “Every week hundreds of students, alumni, and visitors to the campus pass the Endowed Scholarship Wall, and it is not unusual to see them reading each plaque.”
Established February 27, 1902, First State Bank & Trust Co. has provided over a century of service to its neighbors and friends in Panola County. It operates through conveniently located offices on west Panola Street in Carthage and can be found on the internet at www.fsbcarthage.com.
The First State Bank & Trust Company Scholarship will be awarded annually to a deserving student. The selection and announcement naming the recipients will be made in the spring each year. Applicants should contact the Office of Institutional Advancement at Panola College, 903-693-2029.
