Lunchbox Lecture to Commemorate the Life of Florence Nightingale
On Wednesday, Aug. 29, the M. P. Baker Library, in cooperation with the Longview Regional Medical Center, will present a lunchbox lecture commemorating Florence Nightingale. The guest speaker will be Mrs. Stephanie Foster, Chief Nursing Officer at the Longview Regional Medical Center.
Florence Nightingale, also known as the “Lady with the Lamp,” made history with her nursing work in the Crimean War. Nightingale's lasting contribution has been her role in founding of the modern nursing profession. During her lifetime she set an example of compassion, commitment to patient care, and diligent and thoughtful hospital administration that is seen in todays modern health care facilities.
Mrs. Stephanie Foster graduated from the University of Texas at Tyler in 1998 with a BS in Nursing. In 2003 she attained her Master of Science Degree in Nursing with honors from the University of Phoenix.
“Mrs. Foster is qualified to speak to the life and times of Florence Nightingale, said Zeny Jett, M.P. Baker Library, director of library services. “ Her knowledge and experience help frame the challenges faced by pioneers of the nursing profession in a format that will motivate practitioners and inspire students entering the care-giving profession.”
The lunchbox lecture will be held at noon on Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2007 at the M.P. Baker Library. A light lunch will be served. The event is free and open to the public. Please call Zeny Jett at 903-693-2005 or email at zjett@panola.edu for additional information.
