CORSICANA - For a
third time in conference play, Panola lost a doubleheader here Wednesday.
Navarro collected 20 hits and 21 runs in 12 innings at bat and thumped the
Ponies, 10-7 and 11-0.
With Angelina, Texarkana, Bossier and Paris remaining on the schedule, the
Ponies are likely to spend another post-season as spectators in the XIV region
tournament. Only four teams are taken from each zone and Panola is currently
four games under .500 in the East Zone at 7-11. There are still 10 contests
remaining in league but the schedule is not favorable even if the Ponies tried
to change course. Paris is the remaining series in Carthage after Saturday's
event with Lon Morris.
Taylor Davis gave up five walks, five hits and five runs as the Panola starter
in game 1, but subsequently Kevin Humphreys, Addison Rayford and Scott Copeland
failed to hold the line, too, with Rayford taking the loss.
Panola led 1-0 in the first when Victor Luque singled, Cody Deitz walked, Luque
stole third and Cody Jones's infield roller brought an RBI. Jared Wondra singled
and stole two bases, including home. In the fourth, Migel Alicea singled, stole
third and marked on a wild pitch. Navarro tied the score 4-4 and took over with
a two-run rally in the fifth.
In the sixth, the Ponies used two walks, a double by Wondra, a single by Luque
and a double by Deitz to go ahead 7-6, but it was short-lived.
Navarro scored the game's last five runs in the sixth and slammed the door.
Panola's scoring in game 2 is best left undiscussed. Jones, Cleveland and Daniel
Slater had Panola's three hits.
