Branden Powell was working with a one-run lead in the third when a bunt single
and a two-out home run rocked his world.
A triple, a sacrifice fly in the fourth, a single, a hit batsman, and a
three-run homer against reliever Kory Cleveland kept Panola backed away in the
next two innings and Bossier Parish CC would leave town with an 8-6 victory and
a split of a conference doubleheader here Saturday.
Defeat involved several factors, none more important than the fact that the
Ponies never could stop Bossier long enough to catch up.
Despite 12 hits, mostly singles, it was a matter of never taking charge, never
closing the door defensively.
Don Clinton's crew made just one error, but every time it threatened to take
over, Bossier had an answer.
Panola scored twice in the second for a 2-1 lead but was behind 4-2 when it next
tallied.
Bossier answered with a three-run fifth.
Finally, the Ponies pulled to within 7-6 with two markers in the seventh.
In the eighth, a double play worked to Bossier's advantage and there was no more
scoring in the final two stanzas.
Ben Williams and Allison Rayford pitched the last three innings and the Cavs
scored only on a solo homer against Williams, but it was too late.
