ZOONOSIS VETERINARIAN TO ADDRESS NURSING STUDENTS
On Monday, April 17, Dr. James H. Wright, DVM, MPVM, from the Department of State Health Services in Tyler, TX will present information to Panola College nursing students and staff about Rabies, West Nile Virus, Avian Flu and related topics. Dr. Wright is speaking at the invitation of all the nursing programs at Panola College, who invited him to come and share information about the growing threat these diseases pose to society.
Dr. Wright works as a zoonosis veterinarian in the department of state health
zoonosis control program in Tyler. As a zoonosis veterinarian he studies
diseases that are communicable from animals to humans under natural conditions.
His duties include consulting with the general public, local governments,
patients bitten by animals, and physicians on zoonotic diseases and animal
control. He also trains and advises Animal Control Officers and deals with
animal shelters and humane societies.
Dr. Wright is active in the region’s emergency response efforts, and his responsibilities include helping develop laws and dealing with legislative and public questions concerning zoonotic diseases and animal control.
This lecture will begin at 8:30 a.m. in the Q. M. Martin Auditorium and will end at approximately 11:00 a.m. Dr. Wright encourages all interested persons to attend.
