Noted higher education researcher speaks at Panola College

Dr. John Edward Roueche, professor and director of the Community College Leadership Program at the University of Texas at Austin, spoke to Panola faculty and staff during their professional development activities at the college this week. 

Dr. Roueche, a community college graduate himself, has received national recognition for his research, teaching, service, and overall leadership, including the 1988 B. Lamar Johnson Leadership Award from the League of Innovation in the Community College and the 1986 National Distinguished Leadership Award from the American Association of Community Colleges.  Dr. Roueche was also honored in 1994 with the University of Texas Distinguished Faculty Award and in 1982 with U.T.’s Teaching Excellence Award.   

Dr. Roueche has spoken to more than 1,300 colleges and universities around the world on topics of teaching and leadership excellence. He is the author of 35 books and more than 150 published articles. 

At Panola College Dr. Roueche’s presentation was entitled “Excellence is Everybody’s Job.”  He emphasized that the image of friendliness and competence is developed by all parts of the college community, from groundskeepers and maintenance personnel to the faculty and administrative officers.   

Dr. Lillian Cook, Panola Vice President and Dean of Instruction stated, “Dr. Roueche motivated and reenergized all of us to do the very best that we can for our students and community.  He emphasized that going the extra mile is the mark of excellence in any endeavor.  We were fortunate to have him here.”
