PANOLA COLLEGE HONORS EMPLOYEES
On Wednesday, May 10, 2006, Panola College honored Mr. Ken Baker, Mrs. Kathleen Schultz, Dr. Jeanne Scott, and numerous other employees for their years of service to the College. Each was recognized and thanked for contributing their talents and skills to the institution.
Mr. Ken Baker joined the Panola College Shelby College Center as a maintenance technician in February 1993. His duties included facility upkeep and assisting the faculty and staff as needed. “Ken served 24 years in the Air Force before retiring as a Master Sergeant,” said Dr. Joe Shannon, Associate Dean of Instruction. “His military experience proved to be a great asset for the institution. Ken took pride in his work, and when he took on a project he did it right.”
Mrs. Kathleen Schultz is retiring from Panola College after 10 years as an instructor in the Health Information Technology program. She was hired in 1996 to begin development of programs to train students for staff positions in hospitals and medical offices. Schultz is a certified Medical Office Assistant who brought more than 10 years of experience working in doctor’s offices to the job. She assisted in the development of the two year Associate Degree program in Health Information Technology and the one year certificate programs in Medical Office Assistant, Coding Specialist, Health Unit Coordinator, and Medical Office Transcription. “Mrs. Schultz has a wonderful optimism; she both comforts and encourages students,” said Dr. Lillian Cook, Vice President of Instruction. “She will be missed at Panola College.”
Dr. Jeanne Scott has been the Director of Panola College’s Harrison and Marion County operations since August 1994. She is one of the institution’s six administrators and currently oversees the day to day operations of the Panola College Marshall Center. Over the years her responsibilities have included serving on the Steering Committee as well as being a co-editor of Panola College’s publication for its accrediting body, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
Dr. Scott’s outgoing personality and friendly smile made her the perfect ambassador for Panola College in Harrison and Marion counties. Over the years she made numerous presentations before such groups as the Jefferson and Marshall Rotary Clubs, the Jefferson Lions Club, The 1933 Study Club in Jefferson, The Daughters of the American Revolution, Jefferson, The Marshall Independent School System, Jefferson ISD, Harleton ISD, Waskom ISD, and Elysian Fields ISD as well as various other groups such as Leadership Marshall and Jefferson. Dr. Lillian Cook stated, “Dr. Scott is a true Southern lady. She has represented Panola College with dignity, intelligence, and good humor. We will miss her but wish her well in her retirement.”
Dr. Scott is currently a member of the Marshall Rotary Club as well as the Jefferson and Marshall Chambers of Commerce and for the past six years, she has been on the Advisory Board for LSU at Eunice.
“Over the years Kathleen, Ken, and Jeanne have all made important contributions to Panola College,” said Dr, Gregory Powell, President of Panola College. “Each of them has a positive attitude and enthusiasm for the job that will be missed by all of us. We wish them all the best for the future.”
