Petroleum Technology Program Off to Good Start

Panola College recently hosted a meeting of its Petroleum Technology Program Advisory Board. Twenty-three guests were present at the meeting including Panola College officials and instructors as well as representatives from eleven companies who represent various divisions of the petroleum industry.

During the meeting Dr. Joe Shannon, Associate Dean of Instruction, reported on the progress of the program.  Mr. Jeremy Hight, Industrial Technology Instructor, also addressed the gathering. He provided specific details about the program’s immediate needs and requested equipment and additional teaching tools.  Dr. Gregory Powell, President of Panola College, concluded the presentation by sharing his vision for the program and the benefits it could bring to East Texas.

Dr. Powell then opened the floor for comments and suggestions. The response was positive and enthusiastic. Everyone agreed that the petroleum industry could benefit from the program since it would provide a common pool of qualified applicants from which all companies might pull. Advisory board members also discussed how the program could assist their industry by informing young men and women about the number and quality of job opportunities available in today’s petroleum industry.

Following the Advisory Board meeting a separate meeting was held to discuss internships which would be offered to students following completion of their first year of the program. Individuals seeking additional information about the Petroleum Technology Certificate Program should call 936-591-9075.
