Panola College to Offer Emergency Medical Technician Basic Course
Panola College is pleased to announce an Emergency Medical Technician Basic class to be offered at the Carthage campus. The class will begin on September 12, 2006, and will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 am - 4 pm.
The Emergency Medical Technician Basic (EMT-B) class will teach students the fundamentals of administering lifesaving skills in an emergency situation. Students will learn trauma care and skills such as bandaging and splinting, head and spine injury skills, vehicle extrication, medical emergency care and use of an automated external defibrillator, as well as patient assessment. Students will also complete a Pediatric Education for Prehospital Providers course.
Upon successful completion of this course and successful completion of the National Registry Exam, students will be able to apply for certification in Texas or Louisiana. This will allow students to work for an ambulance service and some hospital emergency rooms. The course will be taught by Mr. Ronnie Morton, Lp, who is a Licensed Paramedic and a retired fireman and an EMS Coordinator from the Marshall Fire Department where he had an excellent program with a 95% pass rate. Morton became a certified first aid and CPR instructor, certified firefighter and EMT-B in 1985. He became an EMS instructor in 1992 and a coordinator in 1993. He obtained EMT-Intermediate in 1993, EMT-Paramedic in 1997, and Licensed Paramedic in 2001. He is an instructor intermediate for the Texas Fire Commission and an instructor for the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer’s Standards and Education. He became an advanced coordinator in 1997. He is also a PEPP course coordinator and a PHTLS instructor.
