College Preparing for Christmas in Carthage

This year’s production of Christmas in Carthage, always a town favorite, is well underway.  The 2006 show is called Toyland, and it will feature fun songs such as “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” and holiday favorites like “A Holly Jolly Christmas.”  Particularly oriented to the Toyland theme are several pieces from Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker Suite such as “The Sugar Plum Fairy” and “The Nutcracker March.”  There may even be a glimpse of everyone’s favorite jolly man!

The 2006 Panola Pipers have six returning sophomore students from last year’s group:  Lakeisha Berry, Tyler Burkhalter, Jamie Johnson, Paul Krueger, Jarron Simmons, and Valerie Smith.  The two new Pipers, David Stone, sophomore, and Raquita McCollister, freshmen, have jumped right in to complete the group.  Alternate and part-time sound technician, freshmen Lauren Watson, adds much to the ensemble.  The group features live accompaniment from pianist Jim Faucett and percussionist Richard Hughes.

Choreographer Misty Peace and Director Sarin Peck are hard at work finalizing the details for this year’s show.  Mrs. Peck is optimistic about Christmas in Carthage, “the students are working very hard, and I anticipate an excellent and fun Toyland!  We hope everyone will join us at the end of the month.”

Toyland will be performed in the Panola College Ballroom on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, November 30, December 1 and 2.  Dinner begins at 6:30 pm each night with the show to follow.  Tickets are $18 for adults and $15 for students.  Reservations are suggested and can be made by contacting Sarin Peck, Director of Vocal Music at 903-693-2061 or speck@panola.edu .  Seats are first-come-first-served, so make your reservation today!
