M. P. Baker Library to hold Edible Book Contest
The Panola College M. P. Baker Library invites book artists and cooks to submit an entry for this year’s edible book contest. The event is part of an International Edible Book Festival, a yearly event that takes place the first week in April throughout the world. This event unites bibliophiles, book artists and food lovers to celebrate the ingestion of culture and its fulfilling nourishment. Participants create edible books that are exhibited, documented, then consumed.
“We are very excited about this event,” exclaimed Zeny Jett, Director, Library Services. “There are a lot of great cooks in our community, and I am positive that we will receive many attractive and tasty entries. The only rule is to make edible art that has something to do with books, as shapes and/or content.”
Entries must be submitted to the M. P. Baker Library by 9:00 am on Tuesday, April 4. The cakes will be reviewed by a panel of three judges, and the winner announced on April 5. The winner will receive a $50 prize.
Following the judging on April 4, the entries will be auctioned off to raise money for the M.P. Baker Library expansion project. The public is invited to participate in this silent auction which will run from noon until 4:00 pm. “This will be a unique opportunity to view an exciting piece of art work, and then eat it,” said Jett with a smile. “I hope the community will take a few minutes to come by and view the entries.” For additional information please call 903-693-1155.
