DONATE-A-BOOK PROGRAM FILLS BOOKSHELVES

The M. P. Baker Library at Panola College is using the Alibris Donate-A-Book program to provide an easy way for generous donors to fill their bookshelves. The Donate-A-Book program lets donors make a difference by directly benefiting schools, libraries, and nonprofits in communities near and far in a tangible and lasting way. Institutions like Panola College can ask and receive exactly what they need with minimal time and effort.

The program works like a bridal registry. Librarians, teachers and other nonprofit organizations can create a wish list online using the vast Alibris book catalog. Anyone can then go to Alibris (www.alibris.com) and purchase those items and have them shipped directly to the charity. Donors can choose to donate as little or as much as possible with the click of a button. “We are excited about this Donate-A-Book project,” said Zeny Jett, Director of Library Services. “It provides us with an opportunity to promote Panola College internationally, and it’s effective! Panola College is receiving books from donors from around the world, people who may not even necessarily know where Carthage, TX or Panola College is located.  Finally, the books we are receiving are the ones we need for the core collection necessary to support our Environmental Technology program.

“The Internet gives us a whole new way to reach out to both local and long distance donors, and Alibris has provided a program that lets us do so efficiently,” said Jett. “I have been receiving notices of donations from individuals who have purchased books for our Library, and we expect them to arrive within the next 10 days.”
