Carthage Music Club to Host Spring Concert

 

In celebration of National Music Week, May 1 – 8, the Carthage Music Club will host a springtime concert on the main campus of Panola College. This year’s guest artist is Mr. Keron Jackson. He will perform in the Q. M. Martin Auditorium on May 5 at 7:00 p.m. Mr. Jackson’s performance will include music in tribute to the theme of the 2005 National Music Week, “Music – Helps Freedom Ring Around the World.”

 

Mr. Jackson, a gifted baritone, is a second year student at Panola College and plans a career serving God through his musical talents.  In 2001, Mr. Jackson was awarded “Best Male Vocalist” at the National Association of Teachers of Singing competition. He also placed first in the “Classical Male Vocalist” and “Musical Theater –Male” categories.  Jackson has also won two Irene Ryan Best Actor Awards for his performances as Joe in Showboat and as Hud in Hair.  He was nominated “Best Actor of the Year” in Dallas for his performance as Jake in the Dallas Theater Center’s production of Sideshow.  Most recently, he performed in the Panola College Drama Department’s production of Fantasticks and as the character, Jim, in Big River.  Mr. Jackson also performed as the bass soloist in the community-wide performance of the Messiah.

 

Accompanist Joyce Hughes has been the organist and choirmaster at St. John’s Episcopal Church for 32 years.  She is a retired public school music teacher.  She holds a bachelor’s degree in music from Texas State University and a master’s degree in vocal performance from the University of Houston.

 

The Carthage Music Club is an affiliate of the National Federation of Music Clubs and the Texas Federation of Music Clubs.  Community sponsors of this event help support the Carthage Music Club Scholarship for music study at Panola College.  There will be no admission charge to the public.
