College Concert Tour
Scheduled
4/8/05
The Panola College Chorale and Pipers will perform their 25th annual concert tour from April 14th through the 17th.
For many years Panola College choirs have been respected musical ambassadors, representing Panola College and the City of Carthage. They have performed in 11 children’s hospitals, veteran’s and military hospitals, churches, retirement and nursing homes, children’s homes, schools, service clubs, banquets, three state capitols and the Mississippi Governor’s Mansion.
The Panola Pipers were featured for the 24th consecutive year at the Texas State Fair. They have performed for six state Governors from Mississippi, Colorado and Texas, and each year they also perform in a variety of venues throughout East Texas. They were honored in December 2002 by being invited to perform in the White House for holiday tourists.
Panola choir concerts are noted for their diversity of musical styles. The 2005 concert tour includes
church anthems, a Canadian folk song featuring soloist Shalesia Rhodes, an upbeat Spanish piece
with a surprising addition, a haunting “motet” in Latin by French composer Maurice Durufle, and a
spirited and entertaining selection about Moses. The Panola Pipers will also perform a driving, rhythmic showpiece entitled “Dancemania.”
The 2005 tour includes performances in Austin at the Capitol rotunda, in Manor at Eternal Faith Baptist Church, San Antonio at The Hamilton House assisted living complex, and Longview at the First Lutheran Church.
When not performing, students will tour the Alamo Village in Brackettville and the George H. W. Bush Presidential Library in College Station.
The choirs are led by director, Larry Brumley and accompanied by Elizabeth Morris. The choreographer for the Pipers is Misty Peace.
