PHILLIPS WINS BALLOON FEST ART CONTEST

This year’s winner of the Celebration of Flight Balloon Fest Art Contest is Miss Elizabeth “Lexi” Phillips. Miss Phillips is a Carthage High School senior and the daughter of Terry and Diane Phillips.

Miss Phillips learned of the contest while taking Art Appreciation at Panola College. Professor Ann Boland told her art students that the contest would be a wonderful opportunity for local artists to show off their talents.

After receiving some encouragement from her parents, Lexi decided to draw a multicolored hot air balloon. The picture is drawn from the perspective of an observer standing on the ground as the balloon passes overhead.

When told that she had won, Miss Phillips responded, “This is very exciting. I am especially pleased that my picture will help promote the Balloon Festival.”

The Celebration of Flight Balloon Fest is scheduled for May 20-22, 2005 at Sharpe Field in Carthage, Texas. Proceeds from this event will be used to benefit local scholarship endeavors at Panola College.
