Panola College Rodeo Team Riding High
The Panola College Rodeo Team has started the fall season riding high. The Men’s Team is currently seeded #1 in the Southern Region after the first two events, and the Women’s Team is seeded #4. The Panola Ponies finished second in Northeast Texas Community College Rodeo this past weekend and also finished second in the first rodeo of the season at Sam Houston State University. The Fillies finished third in both rodeos.
Little Harold Sheppard of Laneville, TX won the calf roping in both outings. Others contributing to Panola’s rise include Wes Hines with a 2nd and 3rd place finishes in calf roping; Matt Smith with a 3rd and 5th in bareback; Patrick Garrett with a 2nd and 6th in saddle bronc; Clayton Williams with a 6th and 4th in bull riding; Rusty Kilpatrick with a 7th in calf roping; Colt Carter with a 3rd in steer wrestling; and Dewayne Byrd with a 5th in steer wrestling.
The Panola Fillies were led by Jaclyn Pannell with a 1st and 7th place finish in breakaway calf roping; Brittany Harris with a 2nd in barrels; Haley Stephens with a 5th in breakaway; and Kristen Meyer with an 8th in barrels.
The rodeo team will travel to Uvalde this weekend to compete in the Southwest Texas Junior College Rodeo.
