Lewis Wins Bull Riding in Kingsville

This weekend the Panola College Rodeo Team completed its first semester as both the men’s and women's teams took fourth place at the Texas A&M - Kingsville Rodeo.  Panola had eight participants in the finals,  which included:  Little Harold Sheppard of Laneville-Calf Roping, Kristen Meyer of Vivian, La.- Barrels and Breakaway, Patrick Garrett of Edcouch - Saddle Bronc, Dewayne Byrd of Beaumont - Steer wrestling, Carey Scroggins of Palestine - Bull Riding, Clayton Williams of Carthage - Bull Riding, and Clay Lewis of Mt. Pleasant - Bull Riding.

 

Clay Lewis extended his lead in the region in Bull Riding with a victory in the finals with a score of 80, and a 2nd place finish in the average with a score of 151.

 

Little Harold Sheppard held on to the number two spot in calf roping for the region with a 2nd place finish in the Long Go with a time of 9.4 seconds and a 3rd place finish in the average with a 21.6.

 

Dewayne Byrd had a time of 6.7 seconds in Steer wrestling to take 2nd place in the finals and was 3rd in the average with 12.9.

 

Patrick Garrett added points for the men's team with a score of 64 for a 4th place finish in the Saddle Bronc finals. He also scored a 68 for a 4th in the Long Go and a 4th in the average with 132.

 

Kristen Meyer led the women's team to their highest finish in six rodeos with a time of 5 seconds in the Breakaway for a 4th place finish and a time of 8.4 for a 4th in the average.

 

Panola College completed the fall semester with the men's team sitting in fifth place behind McNeese University, Hill College, Wharton Jr. College, and Northeast Texas Community College.  The women's team is currently tied for ninth place. 

 

The next action will be this spring when the Panola College Rodeo Team starts things off in Carthage on March 31, April 1-2.
