Panola College to Host Rodeo Sports Banquet

Panola College will host an inaugural rodeo sports banquet at 7 p.m., Tuesday, March 2, to raise funds to support the new rodeo program. The Texas Country Music Hall of Fame is the site for the event.

Guest speaker will be 8-Time World Champion Bull Rider Don Gay of Mesquite.  World Champions R.E. and Martha Josey of Marshall will also be on hand.

This kickoff banquet will feature great entertainment, a fine dinner, silent and live auctions of rodeo memorabilia and donated gifts.  Cost for the evening is $25 per person.  Tickets are available at Dazzles on the square or Panola College.

Panola County has a rich Western heritage. Its youngsters have been brought up in a culture of cattle and horses, riding and roping. The county is home to many well-known rodeo athletes and producers such as Terry Williams, 5-Time Professional Bull Riders Stock Contractor of the Year;  Terry Holland, Mighty Bucky inventor and Christian motivational speaker; Norman Curry, National Finals Bull Riding average winner; Travis Adams, PRCA rodeo clown, and Tye Pride, professional calf roper.

Jeb Barney, Panola College Rodeo Coach, says, “A wealth of rodeo-talented young men and women in our community pursue their college educations and rodeo opportunities in other colleges.  They have to go elsewhere simply because they have not had the opportunity to do so in their own community.   We intend to change this situation by creating a competitive rodeo program at Panola College.”
