PANOLA COLLEGE TO HONOR RETIREES

After many years at Panola College, Mrs. Charlcye Robertson, Ms. Wanda Gaines, and Mrs. Betsy Wheat have announced their intentions to retire. On Wednesday, May 5, 2004 from 11:30 to 1:30 p.m., Panola College will host a retirement ceremony in the Ballroom to honor these individuals for their many years of service to the College.

Former Panola College student Charlcye Robertson began working at the College in January of 1982. Her hard work and dedication to the institution earned her the position of Administrative Assistant to the President.

Wanda Gaines, also a Panola College alumnus, began her career with Panola College in 1978. She was the first African-American member of the secretarial staff and later the College's first African-American administrator.  Her last position with the College was that of Counselor and Testing Coordinator.

Betsy Wheat, a registered nurse who had amassed considerable teaching experience, began her more than three decades of service to Panola College in September of 1967. Over the years, her work ethic, sharp mind and organizational skills earned her the titles of Director of Nursing, Director of Student Services, and Dean of Student Affairs. This title was later changed to Dean of Student Services.

“All three women have made significant contributions to Panola College helping to shape the institution we see today,” said Dr, Gregory Powell, President of Panola College. “They have influenced the lives of thousands of students and will be greatly missed by their friends and co-workers. We wish them a long and enjoyable retirement. They have earned it.”
