BENEFITS OF THE M. P. BAKER LIBRARY CARD
Since 1966, the M. P. Baker Library has provided resources and services to meet the institutional mission of Panola College. The mission states, “…As a two-year public community institution, Panola College is dedicated to providing excellence in education for its constituents. The range of educational offerings includes university transfer programs, technical and workforce programs, developmental courses designed to remedy academic deficiencies, and continuing education to enrich lives and improve skills. Our aim is to help each student achieve his or her potential and contribute to the further development of society.” To this end, members of the M. P. Baker Library staff have been successful in offering offer students, faculty, staff and the citizens in our community authoritative sources of information.
“Libraries, more than ever before, have become vital centers of information. They are a necessity when it comes to organizing and verifying the huge amount of information that people are exposed to every day,” said Zeny Jett, Director of Library Services at Panola College. “We have a competent, well-trained library staff with the knowledge and expertise to assist in the retrieval and dissemination of reliable sources of information.”
“Many in our community are not aware of the variety of services available through the M. P. Baker Library and that for a small $10 fee citizens can purchase an M. P. Baker Library Card,” said Jett. “The card provides them access to an impressive collection of books, the media collection and a large selection of eBooks. Cardholders can chose from a wide selection of magazines and area newspapers or research archived copies of the Panola Watchman. They can also utilize the copiers and computer workstations located in the library. Bibliographic training is available upon request for individuals and neighboring high school or elementary groups.”
