INFORMATION FREE-FOR-ALL AND BOOK READING

Carthage, Texas (April 2, 2004) – In celebration of National Library Week, April 18-24, the Panola College M. P. Baker Library will be offering Thomson Gale's Free-for-All, a program that gives everyone free access to more than two dozen reference databases to all registered users.

The M. P. Baker Library along with Thomson Gale wants to help create awareness in our community of the outstanding electronic resources available online at the College Library, and through remote access.

Patrons will discover that there is a huge difference when conducting a search on the open Internet versus conducting a search on an authoritative database with verified information.  They can expect accurate and relevant results from these databases, which is important when seeking help with homework or information to make life-changing decisions.

Two-dozen databases will be available that include a variety of history, biography, literature, business, general knowledge, health, Spanish-language, organization, and legal information. So plan to visit the M. P. Baker library during National Library Week, to find all the quality information you've been looking for and suggestions about how to avoid the pitfalls of the open Web.

In addition, the M. P. Baker Library is honored to present Mr. Lincoln King as the featured book reader to begin the National Library Week Celebration. On April 19, Mr. King will read snippets from the book “Their Finest Hour: Combat Veterans of World War II.” This book reading will also be a prelude to a D-Day commemoration to be held at the Library in June. The book reading will start at 2:00 p.m. in the Library and light refreshment will be served. For additional information, please call 903-693-1155.

“June 6 marks the 60th anniversary of D-Day,” said Mrs. Zeny Jett, Director of Library Services. “We will exhibit a commemorative display that will run from April 18 thru June 6. The Library will also present a D-Day lunch box lecture on June 3, 2004. I encourage the public to watch for forthcoming announcements about this fun and informative event.”
