On Tuesday, December 7th, Handel’s MESSIAH will be performed by the Panola College Chorale in combination with the choirs from Central Baptist, First Baptist, First United Methodist, and Southside Baptist. According to conductor Larry Brumley the choir will total approximately 150 members.
The concert will be held in the sanctuary of the First Baptist Church, beginning at 7:30 pm The choir will be accompanied by an 18 member orchestra of professional musicians from Shreveport, Fort Worth, Houston and the East Texas region. The soloists will be soprano, Cynthia Schutz from Knoxville, TN, alto, Ruthie Vinson from Henderson, tenor, Roger Bryant from A&M-Commerce, and bass, Keron Jackson, well-known and very popular singer from Panola College.
There is no admission charge for the concert, but donations will be accepted to benefit Mission Carthage, a new organization founded during this year by many area churches and organizations to benefit people who have serious financial and social needs.
Handel’s Messiah, which includes the well-known Hallelujah chorus, is very popular during the Christmas season. Brumley said that it is the most performed musical composition in history. “Panola College and area church choirs are glad to be able to provide this presentation in Carthage. We hope that many people will attend.”
