DUCKWORTH
SIGNS WITH PANOLA
Joins Long List of Carthage High School Exes That Played for Panola
Carthage Bulldog, Eric Duckworth has
signed a scholarship to continue his baseball career and education at Panola College.
Duckworth, a top prospect for the last three seasons, helped lead the Bulldogs to within
one game of the state tournament. In 2002, he was a key player for the Mickey Mantle World
Series Champions, the Dallas Knights. Eric
was also an All District and All East Texas first team selection in 2003. This year
Duckworth hit five homeruns, had 26 RBIs and a
.383 batting average.
Eric will be joining a long list
of Carthage Bulldogs who went on to play baseball for Panola College, said Head
Baseball Coach Don Clinton. CHS has a
strong program and I appreciate how important their players are to our program.
Since 1996, eighteen Carthage Bulldogs
have played for Coach Clinton. They include, San Diego Padres pitcher Brian Lawrence,
Texas A&M All-American Shawn Schumacher, who also played in the St. Louis Cardinals
organization, and Derek Brewster who went on to play at Louisiana Tech University and then
in the Philadelphia Phillies organization.
Other players that used Panola as a
stepping stone to play baseball at the collegiate level include: Luke Alexander
University of Oklahoma; Dan Reed University of Louisiana at Lafayette; Charles
Foshee Henderson State University; Chad Darnell Louisiana Tech University;
Eric Brewster Louisiana Tech
University; Luke Miller Dallas Baptist University; Eddie Marshall University
of Arkansas at Monticello; Josh Ross LeTourneau University; and Garien Berry
University of Texas at Tyler. Other Carthage
