CELEBRATION OF FLIGHT BALLOON FEST ART CONTEST

Today the Panola College Art Department announced that it will be hosting an art contest in preparation for the upcoming Celebration of Flight Balloon Fest scheduled for May 20-22, 2005 at Sharpe Field in Carthage, Texas. Proceeds from this event will be used to benefit local scholarship endeavors at Panola College.

The Celebration of Flight Balloon Fest art contest is open to Panola County residents and Panola College students.  “This contest will be a wonderful opportunity for local artists to show off their talents,” said Ann Boland, Professor of Art at Panola College. “The theme is Hot Air Balloons and the Celebration of Flight. Contestants can choose from several media that include oil, watercolor, digital photography, acrylic, pen & ink, or pastels.”

“We are looking for a very colorful picture that will produce well on t-shirts and posters and that can be used to promote the Celebration of Flight Balloon Fest,” said Boland. “To meet these requirements, the works must be no smaller than 11x14 inches and no larger than 16x20 inches.”

Completed work should be submitted to Professor Boland at the Panola College Art Department no later than noon on November 19, 2004.

Mrs. Shelley Caraway, organizer of the event said, “This is going to be a wonderful opportunity for a local artist to have his or her work promoted in the community.  We hope that the winner will sign about 50 of the posters so we can auction them for additional scholarship monies.”

Works will be displayed at Panola College from December 1 through December 10th in the Ballroom. The winner will be announced on December 10th and will receive a complimentary balloon ride.
