DR. WILKINS TO TAKE ON SRTC DUTIES

Panola College has announced that Dr. Bob Wilkins will begin serving as director of both Panola College centers in Shelby County.  Dr. Wilkins, Director of the Shelby College Center for the past three years, will begin overseeing operations at the Shelby Regional Training Center in July.

Wilkins earned bachelor and master’s degrees from Stephen F. Austin State University and another master’s degree in computer science from the University of Texas at Tyler.  Recently he completed a Ph.D. in education at Walden University.   Wilkins worked for three years as a computer programming and systems analyst before joining Panola College in 1982.  There he served as department chair of the college’s information technology program for twelve years until he became Director of the Shelby College Center.

Wilkins stated that he is honored to be a part of the effort to build a strong educational program at the SRTC.  He said, “I began teaching at the Shelby College Center when it opened in 1985 and have seen its tremendous growth over the years. Panola College is grateful for the wonderful support it has received from the citizens of Shelby County.   I’m convinced that the future of the SRTC is bright, and it will serve to improve the lives of local citizens through career training as it also helps build the local economy.”

Wilkins encourages comments and suggestions for the SRTC, “We are currently offering courses in Industrial Technology including certificates and an associate’s degree.  We have offered a number of short courses related to industrial technology and will be pleased to offer short courses on any subject needed by local businesses.”
