
WAYNE ALLUMS
ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT
Panola College Controller Wayne Allums has announced his intention to
retire at the end of this year.
Allums is a graduate of
Carthage High School and Panola College. After graduating from Panola College, he
continued his education at Stephen F. Austin State University. There, he excelled in his
studies and earned a Bachelor of Business Degree. He graduated in 1968 with honors.
Before joining Panola
College, Allums held accounting, administrative, and managerial positions in various
business organizations in the fields of certified public accounting, governmental
accounting, healthcare services, community college education, banking/credit union
services, and retail hardware/building materials.
In November of 1993, he was hired as an accountant at Panola College.
Two years later he was promoted to Controller. As Controller, he reported directly to the
Dean of Fiscal Affairs and was responsible for assisting in the payroll process; ensuring
accuracy and timeliness in the recording of transactions and the payment of vendors;
reviewing and assisting in the purchase of goods and services including the request for
proposal and bid process, and he assisted in the preparation of financial reports and
annual budgets.
"Wayne is a walking book
of knowledge, said Mike Edens, Business Office Manager. His wit and hilarious
comments will also be missed in our office.
Allums is a past president
and current member of Carthage Rotary Club. A member of the original Ambassadors for
Panola County, he continues to support the Panola County Chamber of Commerce. He is a
former Director of the Panola County United Way, past Vice President of the Panola County
Cancer Society and past Panola General Hospital Board Member.
We
wish Mr. Allums well in his retirement after years of dedicated service to Panola College,
said Dr. Gregory Powell, President of Panola College.
